Enable & Use Microsoft Teams Meetings Noise Suppression Mode

The biggest competitor in videoconferencing, Microsoft Teams, is launching a new feature that will certainly exacerbate the war between the two platforms. Microsoft introduces a real-time noise reduction mode powered by artificial intelligence into its video conferencing service.

If you use Microsoft teams for video conferencing at work or just to share with friends and family, it’s important that the sound is clear. However, it is impossible to create a studio environment if you work at home or even at the office. Unwanted background noise can be annoying in Microsoft team video meetings.

The noise reduction function of Microsoft Teams analyzes the human audio signal and uses specially trained deep neural networks to filter out noise and preserve only human speech. The AI-based approach promises better filter and noise reduction performance than the simple removal of simple fixed noise sources such as constant fan or vacuum noise.

The new system takes into account the difference between speech and unnecessary noise. It is capable of blocking and suppressing various noisy noises, such as typing on a keyboard, cracking food packages, loud playing children or construction sounds in the neighborhood.

  • Go to the settings by selecting the profile picture in the upper right corner.
  • Select the Devices option and choose Auto, High or Low from the Noise Reduction drop-down menu.

Auto (standard) – Application controls determine the best level of noise reduction based on local noise.
High – Suppresses all background noise that is not speech.
Low – Ensures a constant low level of background noise, such as. For example, a computer fan or an air conditioner. Use this setting to play music.
Off – Noise reduction is disabled. Use this setting for high-resolution microphones in low-noise environments.

  • Then select the device settings.
  • In the Noise Reduction section, select an option as above.

Pay attention: If the device consumes too many resources during a call, the setting may fall back to a low level.

The built-in artificial intelligence system then analyzes your audio stream and removes unwanted background noise during the team’s video meeting.
